THTR 176
Dr. Susan Kattwinkel
final paper

Rather than have you write on Peer Pleasures, which doesn't give us a whole lot, I'd like to have you do a self-reflective paper, but one that requires a bit of analysis.

I'd like you to pick one play or theatrical genre or aspect of theatre that was new to you this semester and reflect on how you respond to it personally. I'm looking for some self-reflection on how you've grown this semester, as seen through the eyes of this class. Don't worry, I'm not expecting that your life has changed drastically because of your Intro to Theatre class, but hopefully you've learned something, or been exposed to something new.

Because the paper is self-reflective, however, doesn't mean it should be lacking in analysis. Just like your other papers you should have a clear thesis statement, analysis, and concrete examples. That means there should be some facts, about the play you've chosen (quotes that impacted you or historical information about the play and/or its genre) or about the theatrical genre or element that you learned about. Make sure your thought process is clear and follows through the paper.

Think about how something you learned might have changed the way you think a little bit. Do you contemplate ethical decisions more than you used to? Do you look at clothing differently? Or space differently? Do you connect the material in your classes to each other? Did you discover something about realism or anti-realism that you like or don't like? What's different about you because of what you learned? Again, I'm not expecting anything earth-shaking here, but hopefully every class you take impacts how you look at the world at least a little bit. Think about what you have learned here that might just stick with you.

This paper will be graded on the structure and writing, and on the clarity and depth of thought that are apparent in it.
